Observing Japan

I first published a blog called Observing Japan when I arrived in Japan in 2006 to work on the staff of a member of Japan’s House of Councillors, initially using it to log my thoughts about what I was seeing and reading during my time working in Japanese politics. After a long hiatus, I revived the blog as a newsletter at Substack in 2022.

I will continue to publish Observing Japan as a venue for longer, more ruminative posts about Japanese politics, book reviews, trip notes, and other writing less suited for Japan Foresight.
